In February I went to Maui with my grandparents Nonna Jeanne and Grandpa Ed, my mom and my little brother. It was my first time there.
Here is a map of Maui
This was one of my favorite trips I have ever been on. I got to do a lot of fun things there. One of my favorite things was going on a boat and seeing many whales.
The boats aren't allowed to get too close, but you can see three spouts and the back of a whale here. |
Another thing I learned to do was blow a conch shell, they are kind of hard to blow but after a while I got the hang of it. We do that every day at sundown to say goodbye to the sun. They have been doing that for many years.

I learned how to blow a conch shell at sunset |
Another thing I enjoyed doing was playing at the beach nearby my condo . My mom got me an underwater camera to take pictures of things I found in the cove. I found a lot of interesting things.
Here I am playing on the beach with my little brother |
Here are some turtles and fish
Also when I was there, I went to a Whale museum and I learned a lot about whales.
I also saw how people would hunt whales back then.
But at the end of the trip we had to leave and I was sad after my fun trip. Although I had a fun time there.
- Have you ever been to Hawaii?
- If so, what island did you visit?
- What was your most favorite thing you did?
Dear Ben,
ReplyDeleteI truly loved reading all about your wonderful holiday you had with your grandparents, now that is really special.
You sure did get up to a lot I am very interesting fun activities in Hawaii. How did you find blowing into the conch shell difficult? It looks like a beautiful shell.
I have never been to Hawaii but after your post you have got me thinking this is a must do trip.
Thank you for sharing it with us all.
I do have a question for you Ben what was the single best thing about Hawaii?
Sincerely,
AA
Dear Ben,
ReplyDeleteAloha! Mahalo for taking me on a trip back to Hawaii!
I heard that whale watching is fantastic! I've only been there during the summer and the whales had already migrated beyond Hawaii. What species of whales did you see?
Like you, I also did the traditional conch shell call! Everyone would gather outside to watch the sun set. I agree, it was hard to get it to make the call! I notice everyone was wearing a traditional sarong. Where was yours?
One of my favorite activities in Hawaii is to snorkel. Here is a link to a video I made of my adventures at the coral reef!

Ben,
ReplyDeleteYour blog post made me want so much to be in Hawaii! I haven't been to Maui in about 18 years but will be going to Oahu this summer for a friend's wedding!
Whale watching is one of my favorite activities as I find whales so fascinating. Do you have a favorite kind of whale?
I really love all of your pictures and how you take your reader through your favorite moments through the pics!
Thanks for sharing,
Mrs. Young ( 4th grade teacher in Northern CA and friend of Mrs. Yollis!)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteThat was a great comment, whale watching was my favorite thing I did there and I bet you had a fun time doing it too. When I went to Hawaii I saw humpback whales. At the sunset, the reason I did not have a sarong was because it was my first trip to Hawaii, and I did not know we were supposed to wear them. I am kind of curios, I do not speak much Hawaiian , so what does Mahalo mean?
@ AA,
The single best thing about Hawaii was seeing the whales. The conch shell blowing was hard because I had to blow really hard and steady to make any sound.

Ben
